Got back from NYC today. Um...I heart NYC. Love that going back, everything was still familiar and comfortable. Which means I probably have to go back every few months. Shoot. Twist my arm.
So, here are the highlights:
1. Shake Shack. I went twice. Single Cheeseburger, Cheese Fries and a Diet Coke please. Happiness in a burger. Seriously. It's probably a good thing I don't live there anymore because I'd have Shake Shack sized junk in my trunk. But it was the first place I went to when I got in the city. I'm loyal like that.
2. After Shake Shackin' it up, I strolled over to Central Park and visited my fav part--Bethesda Fountain and Poet's Walk/The Mall. The trees are just starting to change color but are still very green, like this gorgeous one:
3. Union Square. Hung out in here for a while on Friday. Got some Max Brenner's cocoa mix for my Dad. Some glasses at Fishs Eddy for my Mom. Met up with Keila and her friend for a 7 For All Mankind warehouse sale (didn't buy anything but it was fun to go to nonetheless). I love Union Square. The art, the farmer's market, the restaurants, the music. One of my fav places.
4. I went and saw Whip It during the 5 hours I had to kill before meeting up with some friends. I love that in New York, half the theater goers are by themselves, alone, discarding the movie going buddy system, something that you can't really do here in UT without getting funny looks. Which prob won't stop me, but it's a lot easier to do in NYC. Anyways, the movie was great! I loved it!! Want to see it again.
5. Oh, and for you VH1 I Love the [fill in decade here] lovers and connoisseurs, Jake Fogelnest was at the same movie as me. You may be like me and think, "Who?" but when I saw him I thought, "Hey it's the dude from I Love the... shows!" But I did have to google him to find out his name.
6. Since I still had time to kill after the movie was out, I naturally headed over to Barnes & Noble in Union Square which is one of my fav B&N's. After perusing the "New in Paperback" section, I hit the escalator and headed up to magazines. On my way up, I looked down and guess who I saw? NEIL PATRICK HARRIS.
Yes. NPH. In. The. Flesh. So, of course my heart almost came out of my nose as I stopped on the Bargain floor to call Chloe to tell her the good news. I then went back down, saw NPH and his bf where I last saw them, got off the escalator, rounded the corner and...they were gone. My prepared speech of "I love you. I love you. I love you," will just have to wait for another day. I assume they went up as I came down and I didn't feel the need to stalk each floor in search of them. I might be crazy, but I'm not that crazy. At least not without a sidekick. So, I went to my original destination of magazines, picked up my fav British home decor mag, and headed back down to pay for it.
The irony of it all is that as I was waiting in line to check out, there, perched on a shelf were "How I Met Your Mother" dvd's. Nice.
7. Met up with friends Sarah and Keisha and hung out in Washington Square for a bit which was nice since the last time I went there, it was under construction.
This pic was taken the last time I was in the square
I like the energy in Washington Sq. We even sung along with some musical folks nearby as they were sing "Stand By Me." Good times. Later we went to Milk and Cookies and Yogurtland in the Village and met up with friends Andrew and Joey just as the rain started to come down. Andrew and Joey were nice enough to accompany me back to Brooklyn and we hung out and chatted for a bit. Twas fun.
8. Saturday, Keila and I decided that life would be better if we went to the In The Heights lottery, which it often is. When we got there, I ran into two friends from my school in Brooklyn who were also trying for the lottery. While they drew names, my school friends also got picked for the Hair lottery so when one of their names was called, she offered to give us the tickets. So nice! Keila's name also got called so Puz got to join us. Front row is always amazing at ITH. The only sad thing is that the original Graffitti Pete, Seth Stewart, got replaced by Will Wingfield of (So You Think You Can Dance fame) and me no likey.
Sorry Will. I like Seth better. Nay, I love Seth better. And since I'm an over-obsessed super fan, I can have lame no-one-cares opinions like this. So there!
9. The purpose of this trip was two fold: Jude. Law. I was so excited to see him in Hamlet!

sorry the pic is blurry
Got tickets forever ago so it was crazy that it finally came to fruition. Unfortunately I was freakin' tired by the time we sat down in our balcony seats.
But it started and there was Jude Law.
In the same room as me.
Jude.
Law.
Yes, he's kind of the man whore of the year but he's so...Jude Law and British and hot.
And even though I dozed off a few times in the first act, he was the one that kept me awake--Jude Law can do crazy very, very well.
By half-time (or intermission if you want to call it that), Puz noticed that there were some empty seats on the 2nd row and went to see if we could sit them. Turns out the lady who's seats they were, went to dinner w/ her husband and daughter but they decided they didn't want to go to the play with her. Why? Who knows. Maybe they didn't know it stars Jude Law...? Cause really. Why wouldn't you go. Anyways...so, we got to sit SECOND ROW for the 2nd half. Jude Law was like 10 feet in front of me for an hour and a half. I also like to think I got a little eye contact during the standing ovation. I mean...I was 10 feet in front of him. It was amazing. The whole show was amazing but Jude Law was amazing. I'm not just saying that because I've been crushing on him since I saw The Holiday but really...he was amazing. Go see it. Go see it, now.
10. The stage door was madness. Like...madness. But I managed to get close to the baracade and he signed my playbill!!!!!! We're engaged!!!!!!!
Oh, wait. Sorry...getting a little carried away there. But I also snapped some pics so enjoy:
Overall, great trip! Thanks to Keila and Kelly for letting me stay at their place...just too bad the Kelly part wasn't there. Next time. But luckily KP had a layover in SLC today so we hung out at the airport for a few hours (which felt like 15 minutes...boo).
Later,
Sarah ;)
