It's late. And I just filed my taxes. No better time to blog about my trip to Utah!
1. It was sooooo good to see my fam. I think that at least once a month I have a panic attack about my life and it spiraling downward into a mess that I created and chose. I thought I was all good about living in New York, but like Whitters, I still question my being here and if it was the right choice. That's where my fam comes in. They are just good peeps who will listen and give good advice. They rocketh.
And really, it is just so great seeing my dog. He's my shadow when I'm home. Love him.
Ah! Love him! Miss him! Even though I'm still finding his dog hair on things now that I'm back. A little bit of Indy lovin' I suppose.
2. I got to go to the zoo with my sisters and their children (4 in total...almost 5 with Meg being pregnant). It was fun! Well, being with the kids and my sisters was fun. Seeing sad animals always makes me sad. But the kids didn't mind one bit! They couldn't tell!
Twas fun!
3. So, my Dad takes Indy up to the hills pretty much every day and on Saturday he asked if I wanted to join him. Those of you who know me, know that I don't hike. To save my life. If I was a Von Trapp, I'd have turned myself over to the Nazi's. "Climb Every..." what now? Seriously. I don't hike.
But I decided to go and see what walking up subway stairs has done to my hiking ability. Turns out that hiking with my Dad is actually enjoyable. He slowed his pace down for his "City Girl" daughter as I hiked in loafers (I didn't bring a stitch of my hiking gear!). And I took lots of pics.
My Dad & Indy with a view of the val.
There was a fire hydrant in the hills. Weird.
Indy walking down the path with Cascade in the background.
View of Indy through my passenger visor mirror as we stopped for gas on the way home. Happy dog.
4. On Saturday night I got to so see my brother, Scott, perform in a Thrillionaires Show which was awesome. Not to brag, but he did the best. Seriously. He's one heck of an improv actor and can always (and I do mean always) get a laugh out of the audience. Afterwards we went to Iceberg for treats. So fun.
5. My niece M has a golf clap. She doesn't do the baby (or more commonly known as the Paula Abdul or seal) clap. She has a golf clap. I love it.
You can kind of see it here:
So stinkin' cute.
6. Speaking of cute...
...my niece, G. "I Love You" from a Hannah Montana white board means extra love. Just FYI.
7. On Saturday, I went to this burger joint in Provo called Sammy's. My bro has been telling me about it for a while so I was glad I finally got to go there with the 'rents.
Such a cute, friendly place and the food was awesome! If you live or are going to P-Town, stop by Sammy's.
8. I stayed over at my sister Meg's and the kids really wanted to take my picture with them. It's because when I come to town, I'm the cool/popular Aunt!! It's awesome. You should try it sometime. Or not. Anyways, so here are the pics they took, which actually are some of my favs:
Me and C taken by Gracie. Notice the asymmetry. She's brill.
Me and G taken by C. He wanted a closer up shot (he must've known I like those better).
They rock. And I miss them like crazy.
9. I also got to go for dinner with my friends Kendra & Shean and Richard & Bre. It was good to catch up with them and it always feels like I just barely saw them. We went to one of my favs--The Pizza Factory. Best breadsticks ever. Really, they're bread twists. Which makes them better.
10. And of course, I stopped by to see the awesomeness over at American Crafts! I love visiting them. I still miss working there so it's always fun to see the new stuff they're working on (it's uber cool...seriously). Then I just steal stuff! I mean, they give me stuff! So great. And again, it's like I just saw them. Technology keeps us close.
1. On Wednesday I went with my friend Emily to the R.E.M. Tribute Concert at Carnegie Hall. Not necessarily because I'm an R.E.M. fan because I'm not really. I mean, I like a few songs here and there. But it was because of the line-up of artists that were going to cover R.E.M. songs, namely: Ingrid Michaelson, Glen Hansard, Rachael Yamagata, Fink, Rhett Miller, Dar Williams and Guster. The BEST was, of course, Ingrid who sang Nightswimming. It was amazing! She sang it the night after at a NYC concert (that I didn't get to go to) but check it out:
2. I went to Park Slope with friends Shauna, Keila and Vanessa on Saturday to visit this Children's Craft Fair (we missed hanging out with Candice & Co. by a few minutes...our trains were slow/late). It was fun! I love craft fairs. Especially because I got to see my friend Diana of Wonder Threads and purchase a few of her insanely cute kidswear.
I mean, how cute is this?
3. After the Craft Fair we headed across the street to this yummy Mexican restaurant called Maria's Mexican Bistro. It was really good and they had awesome guac. Seriously. Like better than Rosa Mexicano's I think. I got the chicken tostado's. Yum.
4. On Friday night, Shauna and I decided to go check out a Mormon dance in Queens. It makes me want to sing "Dance In Queeeeens!" instead of "Dancing Queen." Again, proof at how awesome I am. Anyways, it was kinda lame so we headed back to our turf (aka Manhattan) and played tourist in Times Square and I snapped a few pics. Here's one:
5. Last night we went to check out a friend's band (ok, not my friend, but a friend of a friend-ish...anyways) down on the Lower East Side at Fontana's. It was so cool! The band was really good and I'd definitely check them out again. Except...I have no idea what the name of their band is...so...yeah. But here's a pic of the rock and roll goodness.
6. Saw THE BIGGEST rat at the Grand Street D train last night. Just warning anyone who might be down there. It was ginormous. Seriously. Disgustingly huge. Cat-like even. But a rat. A really big one.
7. Guess who we saw on the F train last night?
This piece of hotness--Perry Ullmann from Season 1 of Make Me a Supermodel. He was one of my favs! And he was super nice and funny on the train. He asked us our names, etc. and what we were up to. I guess there were three girls sitting right where we three girls were sitting just before we got on who also asked if he was from the tv show. Kinda funny.
8. If you want to see some awesome and amazing photos taken in NYC by my bestie Candice Stringham, then check out her blog because they are too cool. I can't wait to see the rest of them!
9. I failed to mention that R.E.M. was actually at the concert in their tribute and then came out at the end for a surprise song. Which I didn't recognize. And was ruined by Patti Smith (sorry...I'm just not a Patti Smith fan...). But I did get a few pics of Michael Stipe on my super zoom:
10. I get to go home tomorrow morning at the bright and early hour of 3:30 in the a.m. Well, I'm leaving that early so I can catch my flight in enough time. Missing my flight at Christmas has tainted me forever. I'm soooooo excited to go home and see my peeps!
1. My friend Mallory from school had two extra tickets to Rachael Ray on Thursday so I got to go and bring Candice which was pretty cool! Especially because they kept telling us that BIG CELEBRITIES were going to be there. When they say "big" I think they meant "big in stature." The big celeb was Dr. Phil.
Don't give me that look, Dr. Phil.
He talked about his show a lot. Weird. Going on a talk show to talk about your talk show. And his segment was sooooo long with out commercial breaks. Awes! Bruno from Dancing With the Stars was also on and at least he was spazzy entertaining. And we got a Crumbs cupcake as the Snack of the Day. Yum. Or shall I say, "Yummo." Ouch. That hurt.
So, if you happen to catch those episodes (they were a few different episodes) then look for me! I'm wearing yellow! I'd watch to see but...I don't really like Rachael Ray. Ha ha ha.
2. So, I wrote a note for the upstairs neighbors about their insanely loud music (which is blasting right now...it's 2 in the p.m. and it sounds like their having a full-on latin dance party up there). And yesterday when I got home from school I found the note at the bottom of the stairs. I guess they didn't like it...? Whatevs. They can come down and talk to me. I have rights! The right to sleep at night without the pounding beat of music right above my head!!
3. Chloe asked me to make her some posters for her school elections and then to make some for her friends as well and this is what I came up with:
A little retro flair. It felt good to actually design something! I've been in lame drawing and 3D design classes that it's been a while since I sat down and designed something that I actually wanted to do.
3. Last night a group of us went to Cafeteria for dinner (Whitney from The City ate there once!) and it was really cool. I would totally go there again. Not bad prices either. Then afterwards we walked around the Village and went to Washington Square Park which I hadn't been to in a while. It was a nice night and you could see the moon right above the arch.
Totally cool. We also met some hippie-esque guys in the park who offered up hugs. Nice guys. Ha ha.
4. I wore high heels to church on Sunday. Big mistake. Big. Huge. It was like they were fighting back saying, "I told you should've worn flats!" I got out of the elevator at church at my heel got stuck on the grate thingy where the door slides. Just try to picture me trying to get out of the elevator and then getting halted by the elevator eating my shoe and then trying a few more times to get unstuck. I think all the boys were like, "Who's that hottie?" afterwards. I'm awesome.
5. On Tuesday another group went to Rosa Mexicana for our friend Jeni's birthday. She's a nanny for rich peeps on the Upper East Side so that was their gift to her--taking 8 of her friends out to a fancy Mexican restaurant. Hmmm...maybe I should be a nanny. Anyways, it was GOOD food. Best guac EVER!!
(I stole these pics from Jeni's Facebook)
6. Speed dating. 200 people in one room. Lots of yelling just to hear the other person. No water and no breaks. An hour and a half of saying the same things over and over. Looking at the list of names you wrote down and not remembering anything about them. Not remembering if you had already told the guy in front of you that, "I go to art school in Brooklyn..." or if that was the last guy. Good times.
My matches came last night via email. Got two. Not bad. I marked like 5 or 6 yesses so I'll take two. I'll let you know how it goes. Or IF it goes. Let's be honest...
7. I went to go Twitter the other day (I have a hard time saying "Tweet" for some reason...) and I got this:
How cute is that? Very.
8. So, I went to Banana Republic's site because I get a million emails from them which just taunt and dare me to go look at their site...and this time it worked. I rarely buy, but I always look. And this time, the looking paid off because look who was on the site:
The beautiful Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional. Helllloooooo Chris. He's still on the crush list. And he shook my hand once. Totally awes. Do you like how I said, "HE shook MY hand once..." like I'M the celeb? Good grief. I shook HIS hand once. I'm a nerd.
9. Speaking of crushes...and because I'm 12...and have crushes on pretty much any hot guy...including gay guys (Clinton Kelly)...my newest crush is Tim Kash.
He's Indian. He's British. He's hot. He's 27. He works for MTV. Not too shabby one bit! I'm stalking the MTV studios in Times Square until I see him. Shoot...that means I'll have to hang out in Times Square. Maybe not. But I will watch him on tv. And drool.
10. I'm sooooo excited for Chloe and KP to come visit in a few weeks. We're going to see Guys & Dolls and West Side Story. Yay! I hope the weather will be as good as it was this weekend (62 degrees today!). Here's hoping.
