1. I've done a lot of walking in the last few weeks starting with my trip to Boston and continued with several adventures around the city. I'm pooped. But I realized that I should probably be walking more for exercise purposes rather than just getting from point a to point b (even though in NYC walking is how you get anywhere...). So, I bought these shoes to get me motivated:
Aren't they pretty? My super awesome runner roommate helped me pick them out. I am athletic-anything illiterate. So, now that it's getting warm, I'm going to take these babies to either Riverside or Central Park, slap on the 'Pod and walk fast-like (I'll run if someone is chasing me with a knife) to my hearts content.
2. Saw this truck while walking along Broadway the other day:
10. Warning: Long Stuff Ahead...and because You've Got Mail is one of my most favoritist movies ever....
Last Thursday, me, Shauna and Vanessa decided to have a You've Got Mail day and walk around the UWS and see the sites from the film. We thought it might take a while so we left around 9:30 in the a.m. Turns out we were finished by noon. Ha. But we saw a lot!
Our self-guided tour included:
-H&H Bagels - 80th & Broadway
(as seen when Joe (Tom Hanks) is walking his dog Brinkley through a cloud of flour and he's discussing in a an email to Kathleen (Meg Ryan) about a truck that pumps the flour into the ground)
Really good bagels, especially early in the morning when they're warm. There's no place to sit down here though, but you can go over to Zabar's across the street in their little cafe or walk down to Riverside Park and sit on a bench.
-Zabar's - 80th & Broadway
(where Kathleen is grocery shopping and trying to avoid Joe)
If you go in the market, you might want to buy something cause it looks a little fishy walking around a restaurant with a camera in tow. There's even a "cash only" line which has to be said the same way Rose (Sara Ramirez) says it.
-Trying to find 152 Riverside Drive
(Joe's apartment and reason for the ny152 screen name)
**NOTE - IT DOES NOT EXIST** It took us a little extra walking to figure that out...and some nice construction men's help.
-West 89th Street - between West End and Riverside Dr
(where Kathleen lives)
We weren't sure which brownstone was the one Kathleen lived in but it had to be one of them.
-79th Street Boat Basin
("HELLO NEW JERSEY!")
Ok, so we didn't get there because there isn't a straight shot from 79th Street and the Boat Basin, but we did spot this sign for it later on while in Riverside Park. Would still like to go there. But, we did find a 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe which looked cool that is right off 79th Street.
-91st Garden - Riverside Park
(from the ending...where they kiss)
It's really pretty here! I want to go back when the flowers are in more.
-Starbucks - 81st & Broadway
(seen throughout the movie...although not sure if this is exact one but it was the only one in vicinity)
A Starbucks is a Starbucks but this one is nice with more seating than most Starbucks but was completely crowded on a Thursday mid-morning. Again, not sure if it's in the movie.
-Maya Schaper Antiques - 69th & Columbus
(location of The Shop Around the Corner)
So, Maya Schaper is now closed and the first thing I thought was, "Soon it will be something really depressing. Like a Baby Gap."
-Gray's Papaya - 72nd & Broadway
(where Joe and Kathleen are eating lunch on the day she's meeting up with ny152. "Maybe that's him! And maybe those flowers are for you!")
You can get 2 hotdogs and a drink for under $5 (it's their "Recession Special"). I love them but I love most hotdogs. And I really like the Papaya Juice, too.
-Verdi Square - by the 72nd Street Subway
(Joe and Kathleen sit on a bench and talk after going to a street market and make plans to meet at Gray's Papaya the next day for lunch. "I hope your mango's ripe." "I think it is.")
Love Verdi Square. I usually get my Gray's hotdogs and eat them here. It's right off the North end of the 72nd Street Subway so I walk through here a lot.
-Cafe Lalo - 83rd & Amsterdam
(where Kathleen waits with her book and red rose and Joe shows up)
We didn't go here on our tour only because we had all been there several times before. It's great for desserts or brunch. In fact, I don't think they serve much else. It also stays open until like 4 in the a.m. so I've spent a few late nights hanging out with friends there. Great place.
I think that wraps up the tour! Sorry for the longness.
Later,
Sarah ;)
2. Saw this truck while walking along Broadway the other day:
The Happy Fruit Truck. How awesome is that?
3. Have you ever heard of the band Young Love? I've seen them twice in concert (both times with Chloe) and was immediately in love with the band, the music and Dan Keyes (we even met him once).

This was taken on Friday night when I got to see them here in NYC for the first time. Their new album just came out this week and while I'll always love their first album, this one is pretty good, too. The concert was so fun! Dan even came and danced in the crowd and I pushed my way to him and my arm brushed his sweaty arm!!!!!! I then proceeded to wipe his sweat on my friends so they could enjoy it as well. I'm a good friend like that.
4. My bgf (brother's girlfriend) Rachel came to visit NYC so we spent a few days walking (see? more walking) all around town. Well, some of it. We didn't get downtown very far. My bad. But we had some time to just sit on the steps in Times Square and took a self-portrait (I'm disclaiming us both in this pic cause we were TIRED):

Then I realized the dude in the back of the pic that looks like Stephen Colbert's brother or something.
His poor brother than can't afford anywhere else to sit on a hot, hot day other than the steps above the TKTS booth in Times Square. Oh wait, that was us, too.
5. Rachel and I did lots including going to FAO Schwarz which, sadly, was my first time ever going to the famous toy store. Ever. In my life. Well, I had been to the one in Vegas once. But never the New York one. We thought the best part would be the Barbie section (which turned out to be meh) but it was prob the Muppets section. I grew up on Muppets. If you as KP, she'll tell you that I'm part Muppet. I am.

Although, my brother is a bigger fan. He needs to come and make his own customized Muppet here someday.
6. We also went to the Top of the Rock (which, in my humble opnion is just as cool as the Empire State Building minus the lines and waiting). Rachel is scared of heights so this was quite a feat.

The coolest part was that a police helicopter came right up to the observation deck (for reasons we're unsure of) and the people inside were waving (I'm thinking slash hoping it was a celeb).
Afterwards we could see it over at the Empire State Building observation deck. Really, I wonder who was in there. Weird.
7. After that we went on a Radio City Music Hall tour which was cool. They were cleaning up after the NFL Draft:
And we got to meet a Rockette! A real one! Not a mannequin!!
8. We also took the NBC Studio Tour but no cameras were allowed. LAME. We got to go to the SNL set and Jimmy Fallon's set (which were the coolest parts). Too bad no one is working this week cause we saw NO ONE. Boo. But, for some reason, Rachel and I were the only two people on this tour...given by two people. It was pretty much a private tour. Awes.
9. While walking through the 42nd Street Subway station, I saw a reality celeb! Nate Dern from Beauty & the Geek Season 3. How I know all this crap is sad!! Anyways...you might remember how he started out the show:

LOVE this movie and just watched it last weekend so it was all fresh in my head while reading this! It was great seeing your pics of all these places and what a fun time to go around finding all of them! I love living vicariously through all your NYC adventures.

YGM is in my top 5 favorite movie list...maybe top 3! Thanks for the tour!
I'm adding it to my NYC to-do list.

You've Got Mail really is a great movie. I could watch it over and over and over and over and over and over. So thanks for sharing the pics :)

HI Sarah!
I'm also a huge fan of You've Got Mail! and I just wanted to tell you, the awning with 152 Riverside Drive for Joe's address is the same awning in all of the Will & Grace episodes, (another of my favorites) so it must be a set in CA. Just an FYI! I noticed it one day while watching reruns and then of course checked the movie, and sure enough it's exactly the same!

Oh my Gosh. You've got mail is my most Fav movie ever too. I think I have seen it more than 200 times. Your tour was so awesome. I have been to NYC twice and both times I continually looked for spots that they may have filmed. I am so glad that you found them and posted.

I've been dreaming about H&H bagels since the last time I had them oh...5 years ago. I believe they are the best bagels ever made. Lucky you to have them at your disposal!
