Congrats Kirsten!! Email me your address and I'll send it to you!!
And thanks to everyone who entered! Twas fun! I'll have to do more of these.
Off to enter my own drawing--the In The Heights lottery. Yes, you read that right. Sixth time. I have yet to win it, so please cross your fingers and toes that I will this time (it's my 5th lottery...yeah).
1. Both KP and Chloe are now locals!! So nice having more of my besties in the same city as me. Call me selfish. Except Candice is moving away now so I guess we'll all have to follow her since that's pretty much what we all did to get here. Ha.
2. Saw In The Heights...again. So, I've seen it 5 times. Don't be hatin'!! And the last time KP and I got to go backstage again and meet Javier courtesy of Mark. He was shaking my hand and I said, "Oh, I met you before, with Mark's wife." And he was like, "Oh yeah!" and he gave me a hug. Then as we were leaving, I got another hug.
Crush sustained.
ETA: I didn't take that pic of Javier. I stole it from some online mag. But I can't remember which. I wish I spent more than 5 minutes with him and could take a cool pic like this one. But our encounters are brief. Boo.
AND we saw George Lopez on stage afterwards. Kinda funny. And then on our way to the train we saw Allison Janney walking down the street. Gotta love NYC.
3. My sis, bro-in-law and niece were in town for a week and it was so great!! We did lots--or as much as we could do with a one year old in tow. On the last day they were here, we were in Times Square and my sis got interviewed my Mtv News.com about American Idol. Totes awes!!
4. For some reason, almost every time I'm on the subway (or at least it seems that way) I am sitting across from the people who think it's a great idea to make out the whole time. The worst is when there are no ads or anything to look at and I forget to bring reading material. Ick.
5. The best people watching ever is at Coney Island on a busy day. And by "people" I mean "crazies." Wowza. They def were out in the masses yesterday when me, Chloe and the Stringham's were there. We were even eating our hotdogs on a patch of grass and some dude had a few large snakes that he let slither through the grass towards us. Um...not cool freak show, not cool.
I didn't take this pic, but that's him...except the snakes he had were light yellow and his parrot was green...oh well, freaky nonetheless:
6. Did you all watch Glee?!?!?! I can't wait for it to start in the Fall. Mind you, that was a pretty mean trick, giving us an episode in May and then not coming back until the Fall. But how great is their Don't Stop Believing? Love it. Play it over and over again.
7. And I'm SO excited for the new season of So You Think You Can Dance!! It makes me wish I could dance. And I don't mean, "freestyle in my living room" kind of dance. I do that on an a highly skilled level already...when no one is home. I mean, like the good peeps on the show. You know, the ones who have been dancing since they were 3. Those peeps. So, not me and never ever will/could be. Awes.
P.S. I still wish Katie had won last season...I'm just sayin'.
8. I'm going home for 5 weeks!! I'm excited to go home and to go back to American Crafts for a month. I'm also excited to leave behind the heat and humidity and hanging out in the dry heat for a while. Most of all, I'm excited to see the fam and hang out with them.
9. Craving The Shake Shack right now...might have to swing down to 77th St for dinner...
1. One of my NYC besties, Shauna, has left me. Back to AZ after her internship ended. So many good times with Shauna. Here are a few:
-meeting Perry & going to Greenhouse -going to "In the Heights" for my first time -dessert nights with the girls -movies at jdub's (not necessarily good times...but funny) -zombies in my apt building -mc's all over the city -planning our slow dance party...that never happened -the club for Anita's b-day -various dance parties -cool restaurants like Cafeteria (um, Whitney ate there!) -going to see the elephants on 34th street (do elephants really like peanuts?) -cv and rr (or rolph, rolly, whatevs you want to call him) -planning on getting Shauna on The Bachelor...that could still happen... -the "You've Got Mail" tour -Boston! (the bus ride there was...awesome) -the Queens dance (Womanizer and Squeaky) -our speed dating tragedies -Washington Sq Park hippies pic -Cafe Lalo...several times
And so much more! Miss you Shauna!!
2. So, thanks to Shauna, I am obsessed with "In the Heights." Like...obsessed. It's amazing. I can't stop listening to the soundtrack!! And I've seen the show 3 times (no worries...all discounted tickets). On Thursday, Candice and I went to go see it and after I had gotten tickets I got a call from Candice: her husband, Mark, is currently working on a play with Javier Munoz who is the new lead, Usnavi, in "In the Heights." Well, Mark told him we were going so Javier said that we could go backstage after the show.
Um...I think I about died. Because not only do I loooove the show, I have an mc (mini crush) on Javier. He's an amazing Usnavi.
So, we got to go backstage and mostly on the stage. One of the first things Javier said to us was, "Have you ever been on a broadway stage?" Um...no. Never even close. Basically, the mc was sustained (let's be honest, it grew) because Javier is THE nicest person ever and truly humbled to be a part of such an amazing show. I heart him.
I need to see it again. And I decided that I'm going to get as many white people to go see it that I can.
The real tragedy is that I look like a homeless person every time I've seen it. Humidty does not work in my favor. Ugggg.
P.S. After meeting Javier, I got on the train and at the next stop Chris Jacksonwho plays Benny in the show got on my train. Yeah, my face was already bright red from being all nervous to meet Javier and it stayed that way the whole way home with Benny on my train. Such...a...nerd.
3. I also saw "Guys & Dolls" again, but I am also in love with Lauren Graham (different kind of love). I went to TKTS and got discount tickets and sat 5th row, center. Awes. I also brought with me my Season 1 of Gilmore Girls to have her sign, which she did!!!
I thought that my stalker-like tendencies should probably stop there.
She rocks though. But I think I liked the show better the first time I
saw it.
4. I went to a movie the other day at the Lincoln Ctr theaters and this was the in the window display:
They may look like statues, but they were real people! It's for the new "Night at the Museum" movie which I thought was rather clever. They'd walk around, etc. and then they'd all freeze for a minute. Kinda funny. The caveman dude reminded me of Jack Black though. Isn't he in a new caveman movie? Yes, he is.
5. The other night, my friends and I were sitting on the steps right outside of Juilliard and some friends of ours happened to come out of an event that was going on there called Campus Movie Fest. They said that it was hosted by Judah Friedlander and some other famous peeps were there including the guy who plays Pete Hornberger on 30Rock.
So, my friend Keila and I decided to stick around for a bit to see if we could see anyone and sure enough, Pete came out!! Luckily I had just called my bro to find out his real name because I yelled, "Pete Hornberger!" and he threw a fist to the air and looked to see who had called him. Then I said, "Can I take my pic with you? I know you're name is really Scott Adsit." "You know my real name!" he said. Ha ha. Thanks to my bro I did. So, we took a pic and then he asked my name and said that he hoped to see me around again. Pretty awes.
And I'm not pregnant. It's the jacket. I swear. Stupid jacket.
6. School is OUT!! Yay!! Except now I have to keep myself busy until I go home in July to work for American Crafts for a month. Anyone need freelance design work done?
7. I'm super excited for both Chloe and Kelly to move to NYC!!! It'll be nice having my friends here and getting to hang out in the coolest city in the world. Sorry other cities. This is pretty much it. The last time we hung out was when they came in March which was fun. Now it's more permanent!! Except for when Chloe leaves in August. Whatevs. But until then!!
Here we are at the "Guys & Dolls" poster with Candice behind the camera (courtesy of Chloe's camera):
8. I'm sorry, but seriously, can't stop the "In the Heights"ness. I really can't. My friend Keila (who actually speaks Spanish and is from Mexico, unlike the very white me) is also obsessed so we spend half our time singing the songs together. I always have certain lines running through my head. Like:
"If I had stayed in Puerto Rico with my people! My People!" (Can't say this one outloud--peeps wouldn't get it from looking at me) "Benny & Nina! Sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" (aw, Benny and Nina...) "You owe me a bottle of cold champagne." "Are you moving?" (my fav lines in the whole show...heartbreaker) "Their machismo pride doesn't break my stride, it's a compliment or so they say." (I think this line everytime I walk past a group of guys who I know are saying things about me as I walk by)
"Freaky! Freaky!" (Shauna's fav line)
Ok, I'll stop. For now.
9. So, I started reading this book:
As a Jane Austen fan, the concept just sounded absolutely hilarious to me so I knew I had to read it. Not to mention, the cover is pretty awesome. So far, it's pretty funny. And it almost sounds like Seth Grahame-Smith is changing the original storyline and is sassing it up a little. Which is also funny.
The first line of the book:
"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want for more brains."
Ha! Love it.
10. Watched this movie for the first time:
It was good. Although the book wasn't my favorite Jonathan Safran Foer book, I liked the book better than the movie. Mostly because the movie cuts out the flashback-ish scenes that are so much a part of the storyline in the book. Not that the movie suffered because of it. I wonder if they'll ever make his "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" into a movie. LOVED that book. Probably more now that I live in New York.
